Dealer groups don't have a data problem. They have a decision problem.
Your CRM, DMS, website, inventory and advertising platforms generate more data than ever. The challenge is turning all of it into trustworthy answers that help your team decide what to do next.
AI creates a huge opportunity to change that.
Imagine asking, "Why did sales drop at this store last month?" and having an AI analyst look across your dealership data, identify what changed and surface where your team should focus.
As AI tools become more accessible, another question naturally follows:
Should we build this ourselves or buy it?
We think that's actually the wrong place to start.
Build vs. Buy Is Really Two Questions
Before deciding whether to build or buy an AI analyst, dealer groups need to assess two things.
1. Your Data Foundation
How clean, connected and trustworthy is your underlying data?
If your CRM says one thing, your DMS says another and your marketing team is manually reconciling reports to calculate cost per sale, putting AI on top doesn't solve the problem.
It can make it worse.
A broken dashboard looks broken. An AI analyst can give you the wrong answer in a perfectly written sentence.
2. Your Build Firepower
Even with great data, do you have the technical capability to build and own the AI layer?
A production-ready AI analyst can require data engineering, cloud infrastructure, integrations, security and access controls, AI development, automotive business logic, testing and ongoing maintenance.
And it doesn't end when you launch.
APIs change. Vendors change. New stores get added. Data breaks.
Building gets you to launch. Ownership starts the day after.
The Foundation & Firepower Matrix
These two questions led us to create the Foundation & Firepower Matrix.

It evaluates your dealer group across two axes:
Data Foundation: Is your data ready for AI?
Build Firepower: Do you have the capabilities and resources to build and maintain it?
Where you land changes what you should do next.
Some dealer groups should absolutely build their own AI analyst. Others should buy the AI layer, fix their data foundation first, or buy the entire capability.
There isn't one right answer for every dealer group.
Find Out Where You Land
We created Build vs. Buy: The Honest Guide to Your AI Data Analyst to help dealer groups make that decision.
Inside, we break down what building actually requires, the technical effort and hidden costs of DIY, and provide a Foundation & Firepower Assessment you can use to score your organization.

And if the assessment says you should build it yourself, we'll tell you that too.
